Yard Work

16 May

Since the weather has been so nice we have been hanging outside a lot more. As soon as we get home from work Penny makes a bee-line to the back slider to go outside and play. Daddy is talking to her about herbs…

She also is a big helper with cleaning up…

If you need your lawn swept, please let me know…

She’s getting some curls growing in!

I potted some succulents that Jean Marsh and also my mother inlaw gave me. I was a little worried about putting them in my precious Bauer pots but they are doing no good collecting dust hiding away in a cabinet so i’m crossing my fingers that nobody (Robert) breaks them…

Penelope’s Room…

26 May

Here’s what I started with…

I couldn’t handle this huge task by myself, so I stopped and made cookies…

I got some major help from my mom and mother in-law in putting Penny’s room together…

Felix thought she needed to hold the fabric down while my mom cut…

While they were doing that I was doing crap I didn’t need to be doing, but couldn’t help myself. Jeeze, look at how big I was!!

I’m making my mom work for her grand baby. We got some fabric and the moms made a super cute crib skirt..

I had picked the Jenny Lind crib out a long time ago. But right when the shower came around it was out of stock EVERYWHERE! With help from Kelly we were able to find it through some website and Rob’s Aunt got it for me. I love it! The frames are from Ikea and the prints are from Etsy. The banner was made by Shalimar for my shower.

I found this print online. Since this is how Penny will see me most of the time I figured it was perfect.

Rob and I found the dresser at an antique shop at the orange circle. The drawers are nice and deep. The owl picture is actually a tea towel that my mom got from Anthropologie a few years back. The rocker used to be Rob’s grandmas. The moms recovered the cushions and added a pillow…

Giraffe bank made by Aunt Brooke…

I got these shelf brackets like 5 or 6 years ago and never used them. But I think they look great in here..

I got this hamper from the Orange Circle as well..

I found this chair a few years back at a Riverside antique shop…

My mom and Shal found these metal letters. I got a shadow box frame and some foam sticky backs to mount them onto a piece of cardboard.

Curtains are from Ikea, owl bank is from Urban Outfitters and the seltzer bottle my mom got in Utah..

So there ya have it! I’m super happy with it and I’m thankful that our landlords let us paint. Maybe I can paint the rest of the house sometime soon – who wants to help??

The Yard: In Progress…

27 Mar

We were so excited to have some sort of a yard. It’s a first for us. Robert has been wanting a vegetable/herb garden for a while now, and he finally has a chance to do one.

Here’s what the yard looked like…

there was actually two patio covers, I’m standing under the other one. The owners had to take them down because they were totally rotted out. The rest of the area was wood chip city. and then this outdoor bbq/fireplace. we have yet to test it out…

So Robert got right to work clearing out the area that would be for his planting. Bella was so interested in everything that he was doing…

Then he needed to figure out who liked to live next to each other and who didn’t…

Hey Bella, can you keep your mouth and your butt out of our garden? Thanks.

Once he got those planted he was on to clearing out the wood chips. He discovered a small area of brick, some sort of poorly planned patio.

Then it was the huge task of getting rid of all the wood chips. I think in total he packed 15 large trash bags…

oh yeah, and a ton of broken pieces of concrete – that was fun diggin those up…

Then he threw down some good soil, blended it together and was ready to lay down the sod.

Well wouldn’t you know, that the day the sod came in was the day that it just rained all afternoon…

Poor Robert – he was out there for a few hours getting soaked….

after completing the job….

Then as of today down came the bougainvillea – it was blocking sunlight to the garden, so it had to go…

The yard looks pretty good so far, there are some small dead areas, but we will see how it really looks in a couple of weeks…

Moving & Pregnant?

10 Mar

Yup, we are on the move again…

With Miss Penny fast approaching, Robert and I thought it would be in our best interest to take advantage of our current lease being up and find a 2 bedroom to rent. We started searching way early, just to see what was out there and in our price range. We searched Craigslist a lot – but quickly found out that there were more fake postings and scams then real listings. We also just hit the road and drove around aimlessly throughout a few of our nearby cities.

One day, Robert hit the jackpot. He went solo searching while I was shooting an engagement session one weekend and came home to tell me that he had found two duplexes in the same neighborhood that were for rent.

We checked them out and made our decision. And then the fun packing began and we counted down our days. We had a ton of people help us move in and that was awesome.

We got right to work prepping Penny’s room for paint.

to keep addi occupied we opened the bouncer for Penelope and had her give it a spin

i think she had fun…

ah happy helpers…

living room…

part of the back yard (yeah for Bella!)

we are still putting things together the way we want and working out some kinks – but we are enjoying our new place so far!

Lesson Learned…

13 Jun

When trying to clean out your pantry, make sure that the clip is securely on the rice bag before you pull it out. I didn’t….

25 Years…

14 May

My parents have lived in the same house for 25 years. Last weekend they moved out. After the house had been on the market for at least two years a great young couple came along and bought my parents house. My house. This is the house I grew up in. It was a great place, and we will sooo miss it!

My Mom is so smart. Who wants to keep opening cabinets to see if there’s anything left in them? Not efficient at all…

I’m pretty sure my Dad was dreaming about how he was going to pack the back of the truck days beforehand…

We picked our last roses…

This was my old room…

My Mom always had us stand in front of this tree and take our “first day of school” pictures. We grabbed one more for the road. Ya, I know I look cool…

I told my Mom that if/when she starts a blog, this photo will have to be her header…

Throughout the years we have left our marks…

Member these guys?

Did you know they are multipurpose??

Filled with no room to spare…off to Utah it goes…

Mom…MOM stop cleaning! It’s time to go!

Here’s to a new home and new adventures!

Spring It Up…

6 Apr

I’m trying to think of new things to do while Rob is at school, so I don’t just sit on the couch all day. Since the weather has been so warm lately I thought I’d do a project. I’ve been wanting to change our coffee table for a long time. Actually, I wanted to get a new one but Rob said I cant (boo!). So the other day I happened to see a coffee table that had the same feel as mine and I loved what it looked like.

So let’s just get started on removing the paint. You might remember how much I hated sanding in this post. This time I wanted to try a paint remover. I went to Home Depot and picked up some “eco friendly” paint remover and got to work…

Just paint on and come back in 30 min to scrape off…

what sucked was all these little areas where the stuff got stuck in…

I then used an after wash to get all the leftover remover off…

After that I stained the top. This was after 2 coats, and I thought it looked horrible…..

So I just painted the whole thing…

After 2 coats of paint I lightly brushed on some of the stain…

Then I rubbed it off..

After a few thousand coats of poly here’s the new and improved coffee table!
