Yard Work

Since the weather has been so nice we have been hanging outside a lot more. As soon as we get home from work Penny makes a bee-line to the back slider to go outside and play. Daddy is talking to her about herbs…

She also is a big helper with cleaning up…

If you need your lawn swept, please let me know…

She’s getting some curls growing in!

I potted some succulents that Jean Marsh and also my mother inlaw gave me. I was a little worried about putting them in my precious Bauer pots but they are doing no good collecting dust hiding away in a cabinet so i’m crossing my fingers that nobody (Robert) breaks them…

Holy Cow, Penelope Is ONE….

I just can’t believe it. This year has buzzed by, but at the same time, some nights feel like 10 years. Does that make sense?

I so looked forward to planning Penny’s party to make it special and memorable for her, uh…I mean me cuz really I’m sure she could not care less about all the time I put into making the pom-pom puffs perfectly puffy, or searching the Internet world for muslin bags for like two weeks (thanks shal for finally finding them for me!)

Robert worked his butt off on the food/desserts and tolerated the house being a mess for weeks building up to the party. He’s a great daddy.

Sleep Deprivation….

So for the last SEVERAL months Penelope has made the transition from sleeping in her crib for almost the whole night (usually coming into bed with me after Rob leaves early morning), to now sleeping with us basically full-time. Here’s the thing – I really love being able to cuddle her at night and feel her next to me. But we are getting NO sleep. She goes down at around 8 (if we are lucky) and then she will sleep in her crib for maybe 3-4 hours but a lot of the time we barely can get a half an hour with her in there and then she wakes up crying. She has decided that soothing herself back to sleep is not for her. We’ve let her “cry it out” on several occasions. Once she lasted for 2 hours. She just stands there in her crib.

Both Robert and I are exhausted! When she comes to bed with us Robert gets hit and kicked in the face (poor daddy!!). She tosses and turns all the time. Our hope is that she can work this out and get back to a better sleep habit (for all of us!).

NOW – on a brighter note – Penny will be ONE next month!! Holy crap! It’s so crazy exciting. So many things have been happening – she’s walking and finally getting her first tooth, she is also mimicking many things that we do and say. She’s eating “big people” food and loving it, one day she was like “uh, puree food? I’m over it”. So shes’ eating beans, rice, orzo, chicken, beef, pork, veggies, fruit…she eats it all! I’ve also been trying to teach her, and myself, some simple sign language. She’s got “more” down, we will see how the others go…

Rob Turns 30!!

For Rob’s big day we all pitched in and got him his very own BBQ. We had fun breakin it in and enjoying some good friends…

Christmas & New Years…

What a fun first Christmas we had as a family! We had a blast watching Penny “open” gifts and so many people got her a ton of great things!!

First off, we got a special visit from Santa before Christmas came – that was fun!

As soon as Santa sat down Raelynne was on his lap ready to talk!

Addi was quite unsure and Penny was too into her toys…

Ryan showed Santa his toy and told him what he wanted for Christmas

Penny gave him a once over and pulled his beard then got a present! Thank you Santa!!

Poor Addi, we are hoping Penny won’t feel the same way next year…

During the week we had a visit from Uncle Josh and Aunt Nicole. Penny is checking out one of the outfits they got her…

On New Years Eve we left the kids with the grandparents and hit the town! We went to a great restaurant in Riverside called The Salted Pig.

Thanksgiving….

This year we went camping with the “Leeds” side of the family. We made the 3+ hour drive out to Refugio…

When we got there the “Martha’s” had delicious coffee and dessert for us!

Besides the fact that we all got sick on the second day – Penny had a great time. She loves to people watch, and of course spending time with grandma and grandpa…

Thanksgiving day the girls had a great idea to move all the camp tables out into the valley with a view of the beach…
